Pi Network issued a reminder on Wednesday, urging mainnet node operators who have not yet upgraded to protocol v25 to do so as soon as possible to maintain connectivity to the network.
According to the Pi Core team, the majority of mainnet node operators have already completed the upgrade. The process is described as easy and, similar to previous protocol upgrades on the network, takes only a few minutes to complete.
How Pi nodes work
Pi Network nodes run on a consensus algorithm based on the Stellar Consensus Protocol, rather than the proof-of-work model used by Bitcoin and Ethereum. Nodes form trusted groups called quorum slices and reach consensus on transactions based on a global trust graph built from security circles, mutually trusted connections established by Pi’s mobile users.
Reminder to all Pi mainnet node operators: The majority of mainnet node operators have already successfully upgraded to protocol v25. If you have not yet upgraded your nodes, please do so as soon as possible to maintain connectivity to the network.
Same as last time…

Node software runs on your desktop or laptop computer, not your mobile phone. There are three levels of participation. The computer app provides a desktop interface for checking balances and chatting without performing blockchain validation. The node that verifies the validity of the blockchain and sends the transaction after passing the selection process. Supernodes form the backbone of the network, are responsible for reaching consensus, and require 24/7 uptime and a stable internet connection.
Selection of node and supernode roles is based on criteria such as uptime, quality of internet connection, processor and memory capacity, previous community contributions, and trust scores obtained from security circles. Selected applicants will be required to complete KYC verification before being registered on the network.
What the operator needs to do
Pi Network has not indicated a deadline for the v25 upgrade, but is advising operators to complete the upgrade quickly to avoid disconnection from the network. Technical details about the upgrade process were shared in an official announcement.
