Finding a good app in a decentralized app store is like finding a good restaurant in a foreign city. Solana Mobile is betting on curation with its new dApp Spotlight feature. This is a curated discovery tool within the Solana dApp Store designed to highlight high-quality apps that are often hidden.
The feature begins with the first theme, “On-chain Games & Puzzles,” introducing four selected apps to users of Solana’s Seeker smartphones.
What dApp Spotlight actually does
Solana Mobile’s team curate a rotating, themed collection of dApps that are prominently displayed in the store. The first batch focuses on blockchain-based games and puzzles.
Solana dApp Store currently hosts over 225 dApps and Seeker devices have shipped over 150,000 units.
On June 4, Solana Mobile launched a rating and review system to allow users to publicly rate apps. Combining user-generated ratings and editorial curation creates a two-pronged discovery mechanism.
Seeker ecosystem and fee-free model
Solana dApp Store does not charge developers any platform fees. In a world where Apple accounts for up to 30% of all transactions, this is a meaningful differentiator.
Solana Mobile’s native token, $SKRwhich ties most of this together. Total supply is limited to 10 billion tokens, $SKR It works across governance, incentives, and curation within the ecosystem. The dApp Spotlight feature fits into this framework, with curated visibility potentially intersecting with token-based incentives and broader Seeker Season efforts to drive regular app engagement.
