Ethereum Foundation (EF) co-executive director Xiao Wei Wang announced in a post shared on X on Thursday that he has resigned from his role leading the organization with immediate effect.
Wang came to this decision after a recent sabbatical, which gave him time to think about his priorities and plans for the future. “I have come to feel that now is the right time to step back,” she wrote.
Her departure follows the announcement earlier this year that co-executive director Tomasz Stanczak would step down after helping steer a leadership transition at the Switzerland-based nonprofit supporting Ethereum ecosystem development.
During Wang’s sabbatical, Ethereum Foundation board member Bastien Aue helped oversee the leadership transition and assumed a larger role in guiding the organization on an interim basis following the resignations of both co-executive directors.
With Wang’s departure, the Ethereum Foundation enters a period of turbulence. At least eight executives have left the organization in the past five months as Ethereum faces increasing competition from rival blockchains, increasing community scrutiny of EF’s priorities, governance, and strategic direction.
