Rootstocklabs has launched Atlas, a single interface for moving Bitcoin and other assets to Rootstock, a Bitcoin Layer 2 (L2) network that has been in operation since 2018.
Important points:
- Rootstocklabs launched and integrated Atlas on April 15, 2026. $BTC Bridge all users to one interface.
- BTCFi is a $4.7 billion market as of Q1 2026, but most bridging infrastructure is built for developers rather than end users.
- Atlas will soon expand to Arbitrum and Polygon, followed by custody integration from Cobo and Fireblocks.
Rootstock releases Atlas to replace multi-step Bitcoin bridging workflow
According to an announcement shared with Bitcoin.com News, Atlas integrates multiple bridge options and 10 supported assets into a single workflow. Once the user selects an asset and destination, the system displays routing options ranked by speed and cost before handing off to the appropriate bridge or swap mechanism.
Previously, users had to compare bridge options individually, evaluate routing tradeoffs, and manage multi-step wallet interactions. Atlas moves these decisions behind the interface.
Rootstock is secured with over 80% of Bitcoin’s hashrate through merge-mined Proof-of-Work. It is EVM compatible, powered by Solidity, and currently holds over $269 million in total value locked across 200+ deployed applications including Sushiswap, Layerzero, Oku, and Money on Chain.
As of Q1 2026, the Bitcoin native financial market is valued at $4.7 billion. Most of the bridging infrastructure on Rootstock was built for developers. Atlas is the first layer built with the consumer in mind.
“For too long, Bitcoin’s role in decentralized finance has been defined by its limitations, not its potential,” said Adrian Eidelman, co-founder of Rootstock Labs. “This gives everyone, from first-time users to major institutions, an easy and reliable way to leverage Bitcoin without compromising the principles of security and self-custody that are core to Bitcoin’s ethos.”
Atlas launches with support for: $BTC Via Bitcoin and Lightning, ETH, USDC, USDT, and additional assets. Interfaces are designed to remain consistent even as the underlying infrastructure changes.
Union Bridge with minimal trust $BTC The bridge powered by BitVMX is scheduled to begin public testing soon. Once implemented, it will be integrated into Atlas without any changes to user-facing workflows.
For institutions, Atlas includes storage integrations starting with Fordefi and Utila. Cobo and Fireblocks are listed as coming soon. We are also developing a wallet-agnostic SDK for developers to enable Atlas to act as an onboarding layer within third-party applications.
Rootstock’s two core tokens are rBTC, a Bitcoin-pegged asset used for gas and trading, and RIF, a token that provides broad access to the Rootstock ecosystem.
EVM compatible chain support for Arbitrum and Polygon is on the near-term roadmap. Once these integrations are in place, Atlas routes users to the broader network from the same interface.
The atlas is published at atlas.rootstock.io.
