What started as a typical account script has turned into one of the strangest XRP Ledger glitches in recent months. Popular crypto custodian and wallet provider BitGo has accidentally released a large number of failed XRP transactions after one of its accounts depleted its balance.
The issue started when BitGo’s automation kept trying to activate new XRP accounts, each requiring the standard 1 XRP reserve. However, the process did not stop when the wallet ran out of funds. Instead, the script entered what seemed like an endless cycle of small transfers that could never be covered.
Soon, the on-chain tracker was filled with thousands of “unpaid payment” entries, and the ledger’s meme pool became extremely cluttered with so many rejected transactions.
LOL, it turns out that BitGo has a rogue script that is spamming the ledger with failed transactions.
Because their account ran out of XRP 😭.

One of the first people to notice that something was a bit fishy was XRPL contributor “Vet,” who joked that BitGo’s developers had “created an infinite while loop.” XRP Ledger explorers showed that the account creation metric briefly spiked to 11,000 in one day, then decreased as wallets hit zero.

BitGo later acknowledged the investigation and suggested it was an internal automation malfunction rather than a security incident. The exchange subsequently restored the account and increased the balance by 1,048 XRP to prevent further failures.
Nevertheless, this episode shows how one flawed script, even a solid script like XRP, can ruin blockchain activity for an entire network. For now, the ledger is healthy and the rogue process that tried to send 1.2225 XRP has finally gone quiet.
