August 29, 2025 – Tetherthe largest company in the digital asset ecosystem, today announced an update to its migration plans for five legacy blockchains: OmniTier, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, EOS and Algorand.
More than a year ago, in July 2024, Tether announced plans to halt redemption of these legacy blockchains from September 1, 2025 and to curb support by freezing US dollar tokens.
Following feedback from these discontinued blockchain communities, Tether revised this approach, It won’t freeze Smart contracts on these networks.
Users can still transfer tokens between wallets, Tether will cease direct issuance and redemption of these blockchains. This means that tokens will no longer be officially supported as other tether tokens.
This decision coincides with Tether’s broader strategy. It focuses on expanding support for ecosystems with the most powerful developer activity, scalability and user demand.
Tether is committed to a smooth transition and will continue to engage with the community to ensure transparency and clarity throughout this process.
