Solana-based Golfing Loyalty App Golfn performs live performances on the App Store. I learned LightSpeed exclusively.
The mobile app combines collections with digital caddy features and native golf tokens to get the experience of CEO Jared Phillips explaining to me as “Chase Rewards Meets Strava Meets Pokémon Go.” The app’s self-reported waitlist of over 47,000 golfers now has access to the latest shots in Crypto Consumer Rewards.
When I downloaded Golfn, I was instructed to create a free account. I then received three digital golf clubs, which activate the rewards, but when I record rounds on a free account, I get only a “ticket” with a financial shortage.
To access points that can be converted to Solana-based golf tokens immediately, users will need to obtain a paid Golfn membership between $50 and $1,000 per month. These memberships offer numerous perks, allowing users to earn points that allow them to become golf and trade in golf gear and open markets. Golfn is partially circulated through “rentals” of virtual golf club collectibles.
When asked Phillips how the economics of such a scheme works, he said he expects golfers to pay a monthly fee to reward the money they spend on golf, similar to the mechanisms of membership-based credit cards. For Golfn’s golf industry partners, the app can provide finer and more tuned customer data, Phillips said.
As for the users themselves, Phillips estimated that Golfn has a 10:1 ratio of non-cryptic to crypto people, as the app is built for golfers rather than crypto natives. Nevertheless, Phillips insisted that “everyone in crypto golf, not everyone in crypto golf, is adjacent to golf.”
