Ripple CTO David Schwartz expressed his opinion that Nakamoto Satojima, the creator of Bitcoin, was once the main cryptocurrency issuer.
“You can claim that Satoshi was once the issuer of Bitcoin,” the executive said.
The reasoning is based on the fact that Satoshi launched the network and mined the early blocks.
Ripple CTO also pointed out the fact that Ethereum, the main altcoin by market capitalization, had an issuer during the previous sale.
Is Ripple the “issuer” of XRP?
This comment came amid a discussion about whether Ripple is considered the publisher of XRP.
Schwartz reconstructed the idea of the “issuer” to who supports and structures the financial ecosystem, and who created the token.
This means that exchanges that provide the market for XRP may be considered the main issuer of the token.
If you narrowly define the term “issuer” (such as “who created the token”), then some may say that Ripple could be considered the issuer of the token. However, applying a broader definition will significantly reduce the company’s role.
XRP was “literally worthless.”
Schwartz also pointed out that XRP was “literally unworthy” at launch. In fact, I wasn’t even sure if the Redgre stream would continue.
This essentially means that it was not intended to create a prominent asset, and that there was no trading ecosystem behind it.
Can Schwartz become Satoshi?
There was speculation that the architect behind the XRP ledger could be the man who started it all. As reported by U.Today, Schwartz previously denied that he was Satoshi.
Ripple’s well-known executives claimed they first discovered Bitcoin in 2011.
