Neo X has released v0.5.3, a patch update for its EVM compatible blockchain. This introduces several incremental improvements and bug fixes. The team says that node operators currently running v0.5.2 are “strongly encouraged” to upgrade.
Dubbed “Quenchation,” this release continues the Neo X convention of assigning unique names to version updates. This follows the “Polarization” release on March 6th, which introduced extensive infrastructure changes related to new Ethereum client behavior, added execution layer blob data storage and APIs for EIP-4844, and migrated the network’s peer-to-peer communication model to support post-merge behavior.
Neo X v0.5.3 is a narrower maintenance release focused on stability and cleanup. According to the release notes, this update updates the sealing proposal when a ChangeView occurs, updates the error message displayed when etherbase is not found, and reduces the logging level for missing blob transactions.
This patch also includes two bug fixes: excluding the transaction BLOB sidecar in the OnTransaction callback and fixing BLOB error handling for blocks committed by the dBFT consensus protocol. Both address edge cases for BLOB-related features introduced in previous releases.
The release notes outline an easy upgrade path for node operators migrating from v0.5.2. That is, download the new binaries, gracefully stop the node, replace the old binaries, and restart the node. Unlike previous upgrades, v0.5.3 requires no additional configuration changes.
