Gate US has launched a new gift card feature that allows users to create and send cryptocurrency gift cards directly within the app, strengthening the connection between digital assets and everyday social gifts. The product allows users who have completed KYC to send crypto gift cards to another verified user via phone number, email, or UID, and funds are instantly deposited upon redemption. According to the company, all flows reside within a KYC-based account system designed to make transfers “secure, traceable, and compliant with applicable regulatory requirements.”
This new tool also supports flexible currency combinations. This means that senders can pay with one cryptocurrency and gift another asset. This is a similar structure to the previous Gate.io Cryptocurrency Gift Card, where users can choose any denomination from 0.0001 USDT to tens of thousands of dollars worth of cryptocurrencies. While Gate.io described gift cards as a “fresh, alternative and convenient way to interact with cryptocurrencies” when it was previously released to users around the world, the Gate US framework has now been effectively imported into the regulated US context. Gate US is betting that by pinning this feature to verified accounts only, giftable cryptocurrencies can grow without raising the usual concerns about anonymous transfers and money laundering.
Gate US now operates compliantly across 46 jurisdictions in the United States and currently holds 35 state-level money transmitter licenses, following recent approvals in states such as Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, according to previous regulatory updates and third-party reporting. The company said in a recent post that it is “strengthening our regulatory and compliance footprint nationwide” as it adds new states to its coverage map. This reflects Gate’s parallel European expansion, with Gate.com recently gaining a PSD2 payment institution license in Malta to expand its EU cryptocurrency payments, and strengthening its strategy to tightly link new consumer products with official licenses.
Gate US’s move fits into a broader trend of exchanges and wallets incorporating cryptocurrencies into everyday interactions using gift cards, vouchers, and social payment tools. Previous crypto.news reports have covered how gift card platforms and cryptocurrency vouchers are bridging users from traditional consumer behavior to digital assets, and how social-focused apps like Africa’s Bundle and Coinbase’s Base App have promoted peer-to-peer payments and on-chain social capabilities as an entry point. By wrapping this new product in strict KYC and licensing, Gate US seeks to position cryptocurrency gifting as both a normal regulation and not a gray area workaround.
