Galaxy CEO Mike Novogratz, an early Bitcoin investor, hinted at the next big trend in the cryptocurrency market in a recent tweet.
In a tweet, Novogratz called “purp equity” a big idea and said, “Crypto loves leverage.”
Perpetual Futures (PERPs) use funding rates to match prices to the spot market while allowing up to 500x leverage and continuous trading with no expiration date.
Some decentralized exchanges already offer perpetual futures on highly leveraged U.S. stocks and indices with up to 50x leverage, which has already attracted market interest.
Hyperliquid’s Equity Perpetual Trading (Equity PERP) generated nearly $100 million in trading volume in just 24 hours after launch. Just 24 hours after its debut, Hyperliquid’s Equity Perpetual Trading (Equity PERP) generated nearly $100 million in trading volume, reflecting the widespread demand for leverage in modern markets. Equity players will gain an advantage by evolving the traditional stock market into a 24/7, completely on-chain trading ecosystem.
Some analysts predict that global equity investments could become the most important growth opportunity for cryptocurrencies over the next 12 to 18 months, potentially surpassing stablecoins.
PERPs related to famous stocks are likely to see increased adoption in the coming days as trading begins to follow the sun. Given their 24-hour nature and high leverage, these products can amplify volatility in both derivatives and spot markets.
Galaxy focuses on cryptocurrencies and AI
In May, Galaxy Digital reached a significant milestone by listing on the Nasdaq. The cryptocurrency investment firm also specializes in artificial intelligence data center infrastructure and was listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange before listing on Nasdaq.
“I think we’re at the beginning of the race, not the end of the race,” Novogratz said shortly after going public.
Galaxy’s value currently rests on two high-growth areas: cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence, which Novogratz highlighted as two of the most exciting growth areas in the market.
