Coil CEO Stefan Thomas has it Participation A choir of voices responding to Ripple CTO David Schwartz’s upcoming exit.
Thomas, who played the same role before Schwartz, described the latter as “the heart of XRP.”
“You’ll be at the heart of XRP, and I look forward to what you get with all that extra free time!” he said he sent a shockwave throughout the community, commenting on Schwartz’s announcement.
Thomas became Ripple’s CTO in 2013 (when the company was clearly still in its early stages).

After resigning from the role of CTO, Thomas is an open source implementation of Interledger Protocol, which pursued new ventures such as co-founded web monetization startup coil, worked on Dassie and helped develop it.
In 2021, Thomas attracted extensive media coverage after the New York Times revealed that it had lost access to 7,002 Bitcoin, worth hundreds of millions of dollars at its peak. The NYT Store quickly gained traction in other media.
Schwartz’s sudden departure
As reported by U.Today, Schwartz, the architect behind the XRP ledger, announced that he will leave his role as Ripple CTO by the end of the year.
The influential executive who replaced Thomas as the company’s CTO in 2018 will win a seat on Ripple’s board of directors.
