Beau Hines, who heads President Donald Trump’s Digital Asset Advisory Committee, recently met with President Naive Buquere, El Salvador, to discuss potential partnerships in the crypto space.
In a post shared on June 5th, Hines revealed that the conference centers around a common ambition to reshape digital asset development and global finance. He also spearheaded the idea of Bukere for what he described as a transformative change in El Salvador.
The official Bitcoin office in the Central American country confirmed its involvement and noted that both leaders explored opportunities for cooperation between the US and El Salvador in the digital assets field.
The office wrote:
“(President Bukele and Bo Hines) discussed the collaboration between the US and El Salvador on Bitcoin and digital assets.”
Meanwhile, Hines’ visit follows President Bukere’s recent trip to the White House, during which he will meet with President Trump to discuss local safety and prison agreements.
Bitcoin was not discussed at that conference, but Hines’ presence in El Salvador has put a spotlight on crypto policy.
What does this mean?
This diplomatic involvement could be tied to Trump’s broader crypto agenda.
Earlier this year, the Trump administration announced plans to establish a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR). The reserve consists of Bitcoin acquired through a budget neutral strategy and digital assets recovered from criminal attacks.
The US has not made official Bitcoin purchases, but Hines’ trips could indicate that the US is exploring ways to model reserves after the El Salvador approach. However, the current US mission is to acquire Bitcoin only through a “budget-neutral” methodology. Bukele’s government was the first to adopt Bitcoin as its fiat currency, currently exceeding 6,198 BTC.
At the same time, El Salvador continues to promote cryptographic literacy through its national education programme covering Bitcoin, AI and emerging technologies. Speaking about these programs, Stacey Herbert, director of the El Salvador Bitcoin office, said:
“El Salvador prepares young people to become global technical leaders by not only teaching them the technical skills they need, but also by giving them an ethical and philosophical foundation to build the world they want to see.”
In particular, the Trump administration has also adopted a custody approach by introducing laws and regulations that could further help emerging industries thrive.
