Yuma, the development studio and accelerator for Bittensor, the decentralized AI (deAI) network founded by Digital Currency Group’s Barry Silbert, has introduced Yuman Asset Management to give institutional and accredited investors easy access to the deAI ecosystem.
Bittensor is a decentralized network of AI that rewards people for contributing data and computing power to various activities in the form of separate use case-driven entities called “subnets.” Subnets include everything from more esoteric goals like predicting the structure of complex protein chains to text translation, fraud detection, image recognition, and more.
Powered by its native token TAO, Bittensor aims to become the “World Wide Web” of AI by enabling permissionless AI innovation where anyone can build, drive, and access models through subnets instead of centralized infrastructure and corporate-owned AI resources.
Yuma Asset Management, which has received a $10 million anchor investment from DCG, features a two-fund strategy that invests in subnet tokens, according to a press release. Subnet Tokens are decentralized contributor network protocol-native cryptoassets that are denominated and traded on TAO.
According to DCG, the Yuma Subnet Composite Fund is designed for market-cap weighted exposure across all active subnets, similar to the “Nasdaq Composite” of subnet tokens. The Uma Large Cap Subnet Fund is similar to the “Dow Jones Industrial Average” of subnet tokens and is designed to provide targeted exposure to the top subnets by market capitalization.
Going back to Bitcoin’s early days, Silbert did something similar in 2013 when he launched the Bitcoin Investment Trust (now Grayscale’s GBTC product). DCG believes it remains difficult for investors to access Bittensor, or for investors to access AI in general, given that the largest AI companies like OpenAI and Anthropic are private. As such, Yuma Asset Management is providing institutional and accredited investors with an early and unique bridge to AI, DCG said.
“Subnet tokens are an emerging asset class powered by TAO that provides investors with unprecedented exposure to a massive wave of AI innovation,” said Barry Silbert, CEO of Yuma. “The decentralized AI sector has as much transformative power as Bitcoin, and Yuma Asset Management is opening the door for investors to access it through Bittensor.”
