Artificial Intelligence (AI) tokens on Base are once again leading the market alongside established tokens such as: $VVV and $ Medicine While the new launch has garnered attention, it has also received criticism from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

Traditionally, new market leaders draw more and more attention to their new product launches, and CONWAY is creating a lot of buzz despite its relatively small reputation.
Developer Sigil Wen, a fellow on Peter Thiel’s Thiel Fellowship, published an article on what he calls “Web 4.0.” In this article, AI aims to gain and improve its presence through automation and open web access.
Wen’s work has attracted the attention of the broader AI development community beyond those solely focused on crypto-related research, and yesterday he announced that fees generated by community-created CONWAY tokens will be used to expand the “Conway Ecosystem.”
As a result, the CONWAY token soared to a market capitalization of $12 million before dropping sharply today.
After the token’s brief explosion, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin criticized Wen’s vision, telling X: “This is wrong.”
Buterin argued that putting distance between humans and AI is “not good for the world” and that “the purpose of Ethereum is to free *us*, not to create something that is free to do things and do things while our own situation stays the same or gets worse.”
But Wen argues that the automation and problems that Buterin is trying to avoid are inevitable, calling it “democratic input into AI.”
This ebb and flow may shake the confidence of some $CONWAY holders, with the token down 55% in the past 24 hours and trading at a valuation of $3 million. A number of new “AI community-driven tokens” appeared on the market in 2026, but they all quickly burned out as developers moved away from the tokens.
