One of the most important aspects of risk assessment in the crypto exchange sector is transparency. Proof of Reserve (PoR) is offered on many platforms, but in practice not all implementations provide the same degree of reliability or verifiability.
According to recent transparency rankings, there is a big difference between exchanges that offer strong reserve verification and those that are still fairly opaque.
popular spot
According to CryptoQuants transparency data, KuCoin currently occupies the top spot in the Proof-of-Reserves transparency score, earning an A+ rating with a score of 96 points. Several verifiable methods support this degree of transparency, including publicly accessible wallet addresses, monthly Merkle Tree reserve reports, and additional third-party certificates.

Together, these steps eliminate the need for internal reporting and establish a system that allows independent verification of user balances and exchange reserves.
The idea of proof of reserves gained attention following several high-profile exchange failures that exposed the dangers of opaque storage practices. PoR systems strive to demonstrate that the exchange has sufficient assets to cover users’ deposits. However, how good these systems are depends on the degree of transparency of the underlying verification process.
Evaluation framework
The Exchange Score Index is a framework that evaluates platforms using six equally weighted pillars: trading volume, reserve level, trade mix balance, PoR transparency, trading volume growth, and reserve growth.
MEXC ranks No. 1 overall in the 2025 Forex Score Index using this methodology, primarily due to strong derivatives activity and nearly 90% growth in spot and perpetual trading volumes.
Although not at the top of the ranking in terms of transparency or growth metrics, Binance ranks second thanks to its unparalleled trading volume and exchange reserves. Bybit made it into the top three thanks to its rich derivatives liquidity and relatively robust transparency policy.
Many other exchanges also have competitive performance in these categories. Gate, Bitget, and KuCoin rank highly due to relatively high proof-of-reserve transparency scores and rapidly increasing trading volumes.
