What would you do if your office team had a monkey king?
This is the idea behind Alibaba’s Wukong AI agent platform. The platform is named after Son Goku, the mischievous and clever hero from Journey to the West.
Announced today, Wukong is an enterprise AI tool designed to coordinate multiple AI agents through a unified interface. According to Alibaba, these agents can take proactive actions by managing tasks across a company’s systems, rather than simply responding to prompts like traditional chatbots.
The platform is currently in invite-only testing and supports tasks such as document approval, meeting transcription, and research.
Alibaba highlighted that Wukong provides “enterprise-grade security infrastructure” and addresses privacy concerns with the rise of autonomous AI tools in the workplace.
The platform will be accessible via DingTalk, with future integrations with Slack, Microsoft Teams, and WeChat, and will gradually integrate with Alibaba’s e-commerce platforms such as Taobao and Alipay.
The enterprise AI agent sector is attracting significant investment as companies seek tools that can automate complex workflows. Alibaba is entering a space where rivals, including venture-backed startups such as Tencent and Zhipu AI, have launched competing products.
Several of these platforms utilize OpenClaw, an open source agent framework developed by Peter Steinberger, who later joined OpenAI.
Alibaba’s cloud computing and AI businesses face increasing competition from domestic rivals and international technology companies.
Wukong’s launch signals the company’s focus on the agent AI category despite internal challenges, including the recent departure of key personnel from the Qwen AI division.
Alibaba is scheduled to release its next earnings report on March 19, when investors will weigh the company’s ability to maintain leadership in consumer apps and cloud computing, integrate AI across its ecosystem, and manage challenges.
