Ethereum’s highly anticipated Pectra upgrade is scheduled to perform live on Mainnet on April 30th.
The date was discussed at All Core Developers Execution (ACDE) call #208 on March 27th, and Tim Beiko of Ethereum Foundation confirmed that the team is aiming to activate the mainnet with slot 11,599,872 around 14:14:47 UTC.
Beiko said that infrastructure and application teams will be notified in advance to address potential concerns. He added that the upgrade adjustment follows a structured process modeled after Fredrick’s fork adjustment method.
The timeline will still be subject to final approval and is expected to be confirmed during the next ACDC meeting.
The Pectra Upgrade merges improvements from two previous proposals, Prague and Electra, to provide a more streamlined and efficient Ethereum experience. These extensions are intended to optimize user interaction and developer workflows across the network.
Finalizing the Hoodie Testnet
The decision to advance the release in April comes just after Pectra achieved a complete finalization with the Hoodie Testnet.
This success is an important milestone for upgrades, especially after previous delays in other testnets such as Holesky and Sepolia.
On March 26th, Ethereum client Nethermind confirmed that Pectra with all upgrade features was confirmed in Hoodi. The company said successful deployment is a key step in bringing an upgrade to Ethereum’s mainnet.
Hoodie was introduced as an alternative to Holesky and faced enduring problems that slowed the deployment of Pectra.
In one example, Holesky suffered from a client bug due to an incorrect address on the deposit contract, causing chain splitting and network instability.
At the same time, another Ethereum testnet, Sepolia, also experienced a short problem, disrupting the running client with a custom deposit agreement, affecting block transactions.
The Sepolia problem was resolved, but Holesky continued to struggle. As a result, the developers replaced it with a hoodie.
Due to repeated issues, the Ethereum Foundation has confirmed that Holesky’s support will end by September 2025.
