Rachel Conran, chief marketing officer (CMO) of Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has announced that she will be leaving the company next month after three years helping build the brand.
A Binance spokesperson said in an email that Éowyn Chen, former CEO of Trust Wallet, will serve as interim CMO.
“It has been the privilege of my career to serve as CMO of Binance,” Conran said in an email. “I am deeply grateful to Mr. Yi He, Mr. Richard (Teng), and the entire leadership team for believing in me, and to all the members of the team I have had the honor of working with.”
Mr. Conran, who took office in September 2023, is said to have launched the perfume “Crypto.” This fragrance, also known as “Eau de Binance”, was introduced by the exchange in March 2024 to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Prior to joining Binance, Conlan spent one year as global head of brand and partnerships at rival OKX, where he worked under CMO Haider Rafique.
A Binance spokesperson said: “Rachel was a top talent who left an indelible mark on the company, and after four years of outstanding service, she has decided to step down to focus on her personal priorities.”
Like other major crypto brands, Binance has signed several high-profile partnerships, many of which predate her tenure. These include soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd, the Alpine F1 team, and social media star Kirby Lame.
This year’s crypto market downturn could be hitting the wallets of the marketing departments of major crypto companies. Just last week, Crypto.com, a company that has spent $1 billion promoting its name by rebranding Staples Center, advertising with Matt Damon, and signing deals with FI and the UFC, announced that CMO Steven Kalifowitz would be leaving the company.
Additionally, Ben Zhou, CEO of Bybit, the second-largest cryptocurrency exchange, said in a recent interview that he has no intention of renewing the F1 sponsorship and is looking for other deals with more commercial value.
Binance said Conlan’s last day of work was June 15 and that she will remain as an advisor and support the company during the transition period.
