orbitAgent Card, a cryptocurrency payments platform backed by stablecoin giant Tether, has announced Agent Card, a virtual Visa product that gives programmable spending privileges directly to AI agents without requiring human sign-off on individual transactions or exposing corporate card credentials to automated systems.
The announcement comes as more companies deploy AI agents to perform core operational workflows, from marketing automation and cloud procurement to software-as-a-service (SaaS) management and advertising.
According to McKinsey’s State of AI 2025 study, 23% of organizations are already expanding agent systems within their operations, and an additional 39% are in the experimental stage.
But payments remain a persistent bottleneck, as businesses can’t just hand over corporate cards to agents, and routing all invoices through human approvers undermines the efficiencies that automation is supposed to bring.
As the adoption of agent AI increases, so does the urgency to solve payment problems, and the Oobit Agent Card comes as a timely intervention.
How does Oobit propose to solve the AI payment problem?
Agent cards allow businesses to issue a dedicated virtual Visa card to each AI agent. This card requires no fiat conversion and is funded directly from the USDT stablecoin treasury.
Businesses can configure spending policies at the time of setup and apply them server-side. This means that spending policies cannot be overridden or circumvented, regardless of the instructions an agent receives.
The agent card is based on three control mechanisms.
- First, each agent receives their own card, which means cards are no longer shared across teams, allowing for a clean identity and audit trail.
- The second mechanism is category-level spending control, which allows each agent to transact only with merchant categories related to its designated functionality.
- The third mechanism is a hard transaction cap. This applies on a per-transaction and per-merchant basis, and is enforced server-side without an override path.
All transactions, whether approved or rejected, are recorded in real-time with human-readable descriptions. This eliminates holds and manual reconciliation queues that slow down finance teams managing automated operations.
What can businesses actually do with agent cards?
Oobit designed the initial release around two core integration use cases.
- The first is payment processing, which allows AI agents to manage subscription billing and vendor payments through Stripe and similar platforms.
- The second is automated expense reporting, which gives finance teams a complete, structured log of spend across all active agents without manual data entry.
Beyond these foundations, the product supports a variety of practical applications, such as purchasing stocks and digital assets within set thresholds, booking travel within an approved budget, and completing purchases in real-time when certain price conditions are met.
Businesses can activate their agent cards through a five-step setup wizard, and the company says the cards are activated within three minutes.
Oobit’s infrastructure is a proof of concept
Oobit is not embarking on untested infrastructure, as it is backed by Tether, the world’s largest stablecoin issuer, which already operates in over 100 countries with 150 million merchants and has over $140 billion in circulation.
That pedigree gives the product credibility, the company says. According to the company, it is the only agent card product created for companies that hold their financial assets in stablecoins.
“Our honest view is that the online world is not ready for AI agents to complete complex tasks and make payments on behalf of businesses and individuals,” Orbit CEO Amram Adar said in a statement.
He added: “Agent Card is the first move to give true autonomy to autonomous financial operations without losing control.”
The product is immediately available to crypto-native companies operating AI agents in stablecoin treasuries and AI-advanced companies evaluating stablecoin payments in treasury settings.
