Elon Musk’s social media platform X has hired a new head of design with deep roots in cryptocurrency product development as the platform continues to expand into payments and financial services.
Benji Taylor said in a post Wednesday that he is currently leading the design of X in collaboration with xAI and SpaceX.
Taylor founded Los Feliz Engineering, the team behind a family of self-custodial cryptocurrency wallets. Aave Labs, the developer behind $42 billion decentralized lender Aave, acquired the company in 2023, after which Taylor served as chief product officer until October 2025. Most recently, he was the lead designer at Base, an Ethereum-based blockchain network built by cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase (COIN).
Nikita Beer, director of X products, said he had been pushing for Taylor’s appointment after following his work for years and calling one of his previous products one of the best designs he had seen.
The hire adds a designer with hands-on experience in cryptocurrencies as X calls out plans to roll out features to support payments and broader financial functions on the platform.
Earlier this month, Musk said that X Money, which offers peer-to-peer transactions, bank deposits, debit cards, and cashback benefits, is set to launch in April in more than 40 U.S. states. It was also proposed to pay a yield of 6% on the balance.
However, at the time, there was no mention of blockchain or cryptographic elements in X Money.
