Tether, the issuer of USDT, the largest stablecoin, is close to open sourcing its wallet development kit. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino hopes the new product will not only facilitate mass adoption of self-custody wallets, but also bring “pure freedom” to users.
Trillion Wallets, No Conditions: Tether’s Paolo Ardoino Announces Revolutionary Release
The wallet development kit by Tether, one of the largest cryptocurrency companies and USDT stablecoin issuers, is approaching 100% open source. Such a statement was made by Paolo Ardoino, CEO and co-founder of Tether, today, October 4, 2025, in his X.

Ardoino expects “trillions” of new self-custodial wallets to be created using the new WDK’s tools. As a result, a new generation of cryptocurrency users will have “pure freedom” in their cryptocurrency journey.
As previously covered on U.Today, such ambitions were first shared by Tether in May. The new WDK was introduced as a product for gasless transactions with no API key sharing and seamless UX/UI.
Earlier this week, Tether’s flagship USDT stablecoin hit a new all-time high in terms of circulating supply.
USDT’s market capitalization is currently over $175 billion, accounting for 56.4% of the stablecoin scene’s net volume.
The CEO of Tether portfolio company Rumble expects USDT’s market cap to increase by 500% “sooner than anyone thinks,” U. Today reported.
Tether’s innovative WDK: What do we know so far?
Tether’s wallet development kit is nearing open source release, and its documentation can shed some light on what the tool will bring.
Technically, this will be an out-of-the-box service that can handle interactions with multiple blockchains without compromising self-control.
WDK is a developer-first framework for creating secure, scalable, and production-ready cross-chain wallets. It provides a single stateless API for interacting with Ethereum, Bitcoin, TON, and Spark (Lightning Network), abstracting away the inherent complexities of blockchain while giving developers full control over their keys and data.
Thanks to account abstraction technology, it will be possible to implement gas subsidies to make end-user operations gasless. Also, wallets created with this WDK will be equipped with a full range of DeFi-centric features such as swaps, token transfer tools, and cross-chain messaging.
According to the official Tether WDK documentation portal, the Solana (SOL) and Tron frameworks will be included in the next release.
